Future Fountain is an innovative urban gardening system that makes efficient use of fountain water to grow edible plants in public spaces. The modular system creates green oases in the city, tended by committed citizens and supported by the local council or the business community. The project promotes urban greening, food sovereignty and social interaction. Sustainable, accessible and easy to implement for a more liveable city.
Future Fountain’s modular planters are placed directly next to the fountain and enable the cultivation of herbs, lettuces, strawberries and other plants using hydroponics. No soil at all – just water and nutrients. The modules are easy to insert and remove, and the first harvest can be gathered after just a few weeks. This creates green oases in the heart of the city that combine food provision, social interaction and community learning in a simple and effective way.
